The first time Dawn experienced hypnosis she was the client.
Then, during her second session, she realized she had found her life's calling at last...
guiding others in healing themselves using the simple, yet effective tool of hypnosis.

Dawn's Mission Statement

"For each client to feel safe,

and as though they are the only client,

through personalized one-on-one attention

It was while working in her prior careers Dawn realized that her greatest joy came when assisting those she worked with, or around, in finding more inner-peace and self-acceptance. Then, after being hypnotized and realizing the power of accessing the subsonscious, she saw how hypnosis would allow her to have a career that focused on helping others to be more fulfilled...

Dawn Porter studied 250 hours of hypnosis and hypnotherapy which resulted in her becoming a certified Clinical Hypnotherapist (CCHt). Following this, she completed an additional 200 hours of internship in order to ensure quality results for her clientele. This practical experience expanded her skills and methods which she now uses to empower her clients in achieving their own life changing results.

NOTE:  As the state of Texas does not license Hypnosis (only one state currently does),
Dawn received the highest level of training available in order to perform hypnotherapy.

As a certified member of both the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH), Dawn receives a minimum of 15 hours of continuing education annually. Because of this, Dawn's clients are always sure to receive the highest level of professional Hypnosis services possible.

Dawn is Certified as a Level One ARCH (Ancient Rainbow Conscious Healing) practictioner and, when appropriate, works the techniques into her sessions (with client approval).

However, the greatest development in Dawn's skills has come from the ongoing sessions with clients such as YOU.

To Dawn, there is no ONE right way...

Dawn believes in treating each client as unique, while listening to both the client and her own inner guidance. In this way, Dawn's clients are assured that session results are the best possible.

Based upon her clients' comments (below), it would appear that Dawn's career choice has proven a success...

R. H. explains:

"I developed a fear of public speaking at a very young age which made even friendly conversation with friends very difficult for me. I would stutter and stumble on my words, and sometimes I couldn't even get out what I wanted to say. I had tried numerous methods to get over it, from school speech classes to professional speech therapy, and nothing seemed to really work for me. One day I suggested Hypnotherapy to my family as a possibility... Shortly after I had my first session I noticed a difference in my speaking. And, I felt stronger and stronger after each session. Now I feel like I have much more control over my fear of public speaking. Not only is Dawn a great hypnotherapist, but her good, positive personality made me feel very comfortable around her right away. I would recommend Dawn Porter to anyone in need of hypnosis services."

"Therapist says hypnosis gets an unfair rap"

GRAPEVINE -

No one clucks like a chicken when a bell rings after their sessions with hypnotherapist Dawn Porter.

The Grapevine business owner does not even have an oversized pocket watch dangling from a chain.

Go ahead, look deep into her eyes.  They hold no mystical mind control powers. "Because of stage hypnotists, there are many misconceptions about hypnosis," said Porter, a certified clinical hypnotherapist.  "If it is going to be a battle of wills, you will win.  You know everything that happens.  Your conscious self is present, it just takes a back seat. For those who set aside the image of the stage hypnotist, hypnotherapy can help with depression, stress, phobias, weight loss and many other life issues, said Porter, who studied at the Dallas Hypnosis Training Institute and Clinic in Irving two years ago.

Hypnotists help people move into a deeply relaxed state where it is easier to address the root of problems, she said. "Hypnosis can't control you, unless you allow it," said Porter, 49.  "The subconscious holds all feelings, all patterns and all memories.  That is what makes it such a good tool."

For some, including Bedford resident, Joni Brown, hypnosis is a final attempt to fix a long-term problem.  Brown ate about 20 slice-and-bake cookies a day. Her sugar craving was like a drug addiction, she said. "Hypnosis was just that last straw I was grasping at," said Brown, who had one session with Porter.  "I thought it would be like on TV, when you walk around like a chicken and don't remember anything." Instead, her two-year cookie appetite disappeared, she said. "I just don't have that need anymore,"  Brown said.

Texas has 200 to 250 practicing hypnotists, said Dwight Damon, president of the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH), a New Hampshire-based organization with almost 7,000 members from 45 countries. As the link between the mind and the body becomes more accepted by science, hypnotists will become even more numerous, he said. "The medical world has discovered there is a much stronger mind-body connection than previously envisioned," Damon said. Hypnosis "is not something to replace any health professionals.  It is simply a complementary approach."

Hypnosis became an interest for Porter after she attended a session herself. "The second time I was sitting in her chair, I said, 'I can do this,'" Porter said.  "I could tell it is an obviously good tool to help people in the ways I wanted to help them." Eventually Porter would like to consider opening another location or possibly an alternative medicine center. "There are so many ways we can be helped," she said. "The reason hypnosis works is because you have more courage to deal with your issues than fear."
